PM Anwar Embarks on Official Visit to Japan to Strengthen Strategic Cooperation and Energy Security

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim departed for Tokyo, Japan this afternoon to begin an official visit that will continue until Wednesday, leading the Malaysian delegation on a MADANI Diplomacy mission aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation and enhancing the nation's energy security amid growing global supply chain and energy challenges. During the visit, Anwar is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to discuss the progress of Malaysia-Japan relations and explore new avenues of cooperation between the two countries. Discussions are expected to focus on key sectors including economic growth, investment opportunities, and long-term energy security. The Prime Minister will also deliver the keynote address at the 31st Nikkei International Conference: Future of Asia, one of the region’s most prominent forums that gathers political leaders, policymakers, academics, and business figures to discuss Asia’s future direction and emerging challenges. In addition, Anwar is set to present a special lecture at the University of Tokyo, where he will share Malaysia’s perspectives on regional developments, geopolitical challenges, and the future of Asia in an increasingly complex global environment. The visit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships through the MADANI Diplomacy framework while promoting sustainable economic growth, regional stability, and energy resilience. Before his departure, Anwar expressed hope that the mission would proceed smoothly and deliver meaningful outcomes for the benefit of the Malaysian people and the nation. “Pray that our mission is made easy and brings results that are beneficial to the people and the country,” he said. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM
