“There will be no GE16 in one, two months” – PM Anwar

IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that he will not hold the 16th General Election (GE16) in the near future. Instead, he said, the priority now is to face the economic crisis caused by the conflict in West Asia. According to him, the current oil price surge crisis is an economic reality, not a political one. "This is not about political battles, being enemies with each other. I won't have an election in a month or two, be patient for a while. Tomorrow is election time, let's fight. Now it's work. Enough of politics, wake up, save our country," he said. He said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Perak State Civil Society Programme (PMR) 2026 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah Meru, Ipoh on Saturday. According to him, the current situation requires all parties, including leaders and the people, to focus on efforts to strengthen the economy and maintain national security. He said that the current international conflict is also putting pressure on global oil prices, logistics costs and the supply chain, which ultimately affects the people. --ASTRO AWANI
