PM Anwar Praises Communications Ministry’s Effectiveness In Explaining BUDI95

PUTRAJAYA, June 8 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the Communications Ministry's effectiveness in communicating the implementation of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), describing it as one of the best examples of government communication in explaining policies to the people. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the clear and effective explanation of the initiative had helped improve public understanding and reduce confusion over the implementation of BUDI95. "I believe this ministry's greatest success is in relation to BUDI95. When a clearer explanation is provided, it does not create many problems. "Once again, I congratulate our colleagues, Fahmi (Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil), the KSU (Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah) and the entire Communications Ministry workforce for their dedication in conveying information effectively to the people," he said. He said this while addressing the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly here today. Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Communications Minister Datuk Teo Nie Ching and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Anwar said that although there were still a small number of parties raising concerns over fuel price increases, the implementation of BUDI95 had demonstrated that effective communication could improve public acceptance of government policies. BUDI95 is a MADANI Government initiative to channel RON95 petrol subsidies to Malaysians at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre. -- BERNAMA

‘Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility’ Theme Of HAWANA 2026 Celebration In Penang

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 -- The National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026 celebration, set for June 20 in Penang, will adopt the theme ‘Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility’ to enhance the role of media practitioners in national development. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the main event, held annually to honour media practitioners, will be graced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre. He said the theme also aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of information dissemination and public trust in media institutions. “The official HAWANA 2026 logo features the iconic Penang Bridge, symbolising the host state’s rich history, heritage and modernity. “Overall, the logo reflects HAWANA’s aspiration as a unifying platform for the media fraternity and society in supporting inclusive and sustainable national development,” he said at a weekly press conference in Angkasapuri today. Also present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and deputy editor-in-chief of news service Mohd Shukri Ishak, as well as Radio Televisyen Malaysia director-general Ashwad Ismail. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, said activities for this year’s HAWANA celebration will begin with the Media Forum in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to discuss current industry challenges. Highlights include the HAWANA-DBP Pantun Festival with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka on May 9, a Strategic Partners Engagement (June 4), the HAWANA Fun Walk (June 14), Mai RIUH@HAWANA (June 19-21), HAWANA Sports Carnival (July to October) and the HAWANA Campus Roadshow (July to October). He said that a range of activities has been planned around the main event in Penang to ensure broad participation from local and international media practitioners. Officially celebrated annually on May 29, HAWANA is the largest gathering of Malaysian journalists, aimed at recognising the media’s role in shaping public opinion and serving as a bridge between the people and the government. West Asian conflict: US should do a mission to Iran to seize nuclear material – Trump

ISTANBUL: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that US troops would need to carry out a mission to Iran to recover nuclear assets following an air strike that destroyed Tehran's enrichment facilities, Anadolu Agency reported. "Now we're going to suffer the consequences, because we have to travel to Iran to get nuclear weapons," Trump told reporters. He is believed to be referring to about 1,000 pounds (453.6 kilograms) of enriched uranium reportedly trapped under the rubble of a site targeted in a US-Israeli strike last June. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the material was "under the rubble" with no immediate plans to retrieve it. Trump claimed that Washington had destroyed Tehran's nuclear capabilities. "We destroyed their nuclear potential. It was completely eliminated," he said, explaining that Iran would need weeks to obtain the material and that the US "will not allow them to continue digging" because of ongoing military monitoring. He also claimed that Tehran knew they "had no chance," despite their public statements to the contrary. "They told me that when I spoke to them, but on television they said the opposite," he said.
