The ceremony of parading the flag symbolizing ATM’s loyalty to the king and country

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 -- The Parade of the Banners of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is a manifestation of the Malaysian Armed Forces' (ATM) unwavering loyalty to the king and country, as well as a symbol of the highest respect for military history and tradition. Commander of the 12th Malaysian Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Mahamad Fazli Mat Idris, said the pennant is a symbol of sovereignty in the ATM service which is always preserved by every member because it symbolizes the dignity, honour and identity of a team. "This ceremony is one of the most important military events in the ATM and is usually held three times throughout the five-year reign of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, namely in the first, third and last years of His Majesty's reign." "These banners have a long history and have long been considered the highest symbol that must be defended under any circumstances, which is why every member involved in the ceremony of marching or guarding the banners will have their own spirit and pride," he said. He said this when he was a guest on the Focus 30 programme titled "Getting to Know the ATM Flags: Symbols of Honour and National Military Traditions" published by Bernama Radio, here today. Mahamad Fazli said that this year, the ceremony was held in conjunction with the third year of the reign of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim after the first time it was held in 2024 and was scheduled again in 2008, which was the last year of His Majesty's reign. He said the ceremony, which will be held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya on June 5, will see five banners of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong paraded by a combined contingent from the Malaysian Army (TDM), Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) and Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM). "This ceremony involved 41 officers and 635 members of other ranks in the parade, while the total number involved, including administrative and support matters, was 148 officers and 1,192 members of other ranks." "The banners awarded by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to the ATM regiments, corps and services are not just a recognition of the team's outstanding services, but are also a historical record of sacrifice through the 'Battle Honours' or combat honours that are inscribed on them," he said. Mahamad Fazli said the ATM banners could be a medium that brought the community closer to the history, sacrifices and role of the ATM in defending the country, in line with the defense approach that involves the entire government and society. In this regard, he encouraged the public to watch the live broadcast of the ceremony via the RTM channel on June 5 to understand the meaning and significance of the ceremony as a symbol of unity, sovereignty, peace and the close relationship between the Royal Institution, the ATM and the people. -- BERNAMA

MINDEF Assessing Legal Action, Compensation Over Cancelled NSM Contract

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 -- The Defence Ministry has established a special committee to assess legal action and the amount of compensation to be claimed following the cancellation of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) procurement contract. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the move was necessary as the government had already paid nearly 95 per cent of the contract value, amounting to more than RM500 million. “A special committee at the ministry level has been set up to detail the claims, which involve not only the refund of the original payment but also compensation arising from the breach of contract,” he said. Mohamed Khaled was speaking to reporters after launching the PROWIRA Ready-to-Work (RTW) Graduates Programme and the Armed Forces Fund Board Foundation (Yayasan LTAT) Education Initiative 2026 here today. At the same time, Mohamed Khaled said the ministry was also evaluating several alternatives to replace the NSM system. He said another committee has also been formed to study suitable replacement systems that can be supplied within a short timeframe. However, he said the process was not straightforward as the missile system must be compatible with the ships’ existing communication, electrical and operational systems. He said the integration process for the new system was expected to take several months. Mohamed Khaled said the cancellation of the NSM supply would not affect the delivery schedule of the first Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), KD Maharajalela, to the Royal Malaysian Navy in December this year. “The LCS programme will continue as planned, except that the vessel will not initially be equipped with a surface-to-surface missile system,” he said. According to the Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace website, the NSM procurement contract was signed between the Royal Malaysian Navy and the company in April 2018, valued at 124 million euros (RM571.9 million), to equip six new LCS vessels. -- BERNAMA

No Navy Escort Required For Malaysian Vessels In Strait Of Hormuz – Adly

MELAKA, April 8 -- There is no need for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to escort Malaysian vessels after Iran cleared them to exit the Strait of Hormuz. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said this was due to Iran’s full cooperation, reflecting the strong bilateral ties between the two countries. “The matter falls under the Foreign Ministry, and we are grateful for the cooperation shown by the Iranian government. We hope Iran will continue to assist on issues related to our energy and economic needs,” he said. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Malaysian Armed Forces Autism Initiative (IA-ATM) at the community rehabilitation centre in Umi Kem Terendak, Sungai Udang, today. On Monday, the Iranian Embassy in Malaysia announced via its official X account that the first Malaysian vessel had passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was reported on Sunday as saying that discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had enabled Malaysia to secure clearance for seven vessels stranded in the strait. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that carries about 20 per cent of the world’s crude oil and gas supply, has been disrupted following ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran since Feb 28. Meanwhile, the IA-ATM programme at Umi Kem Terendak, which started on Aug 4, 2025, will run until June 4, 2026, benefiting 20 children with autism through structured learning and therapy sessions. The programme includes 12 new modules developed by the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). Also present were Malaysian Armed Forces assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel Services Maj Gen Datuk Indera Zahari Mohd Ariffin, Tabung Haji Southern Region director Rozimin Ahmed Kamil, NASOM chairman Julian Wong Ming Vui, and Melaka Social Welfare Department director Halyjah Muhammad.
