Amirudin Shari Launches SIBS@ASEAN 2026 Bandung Edition to Strengthen Selangor–West Java Economic Cooperation

BANDUNG, JULY 9 -- Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari today launched the inaugural SIBS@ASEAN 2026 Bandung Edition, marking the first time the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) has expanded beyond Selangor and Malaysia. The launch ceremony was attended by West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, as well as government representatives, business leaders and delegates from Malaysia and Indonesia. In his address, Amirudin stressed that ASEAN's strength is not built solely at the national level but also through close collaboration between regions, states and cities. He said Selangor and West Java, as major economic drivers in their respective countries, have an important role in fostering stronger regional cooperation. He emphasised that Malaysia and Indonesia should continue working together to build a stable, peaceful and prosperous region, adding that ASEAN's combined population of more than 700 million provides significant potential for the bloc to emerge as a stronger and more resilient economic force amid global uncertainties. Amirudin said the shared aspirations of Selangor and West Java to develop high-value and technology-driven industries create vast opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as mobility, automotive, aerospace, education and medical tourism. The event also witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Intent (LoIs) covering education, talent development, tourism, elderly care and semiconductor chip design, reflecting the commitment of both sides to deepen cooperation between Selangor and West Java. Amirudin expressed hope that SIBS@ASEAN would serve as a catalyst for stronger economic ties between Selangor and West Java while further strengthening the longstanding relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia in support of a more prosperous and united ASEAN. -- MINUTESMY
