Kota Kemuning Assemblyman Urges MOHE to Reconsider Public University Placement for Top Student

KOTA KEMUNING , May 28 -- Kota Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan has called on the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to reconsider the university placement of a high-achieving student who was reportedly offered a place in a polytechnic instead of a public university. In a statement issued today, Preakas said he had been informed that the student had secured an offer in the Matriculation Programme at the earliest opportunity, but concerns were raised after she was later offered a course at a polytechnic rather than admission into a public university. He commended the Ministry of Education (MOE) for its continued commitment to supporting deserving students, particularly high achievers, adding that the move reflects the Prime Minister’s assurance that no qualified student should be denied access to further education. However, he stressed that the student’s outstanding academic achievements and proven capabilities make her well-prepared for direct university enrolment. “Denying a university placement to a student of this calibre would not only hinder her personal aspirations, but also represent a missed opportunity for the nation to nurture an outstanding future asset,” he said. Preakas urged MOHE to review the case fairly and compassionately, while appealing for the student’s application to be reconsidered to facilitate placement in a public university that matches her academic excellence. He added that education remains the “ultimate social equaliser” and emphasised the collective responsibility of policymakers and leaders to ensure hardworking and deserving youths are rewarded fairly through the national education system. Preakas also expressed hope for a positive and constructive resolution from MOHE regarding the matter. -- MINUTESMY / DARSINI SARAVANAN
