The employability rate of KPKM agricultural TVET graduates continues to increase

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has produced 25,601 skilled workers in the agricultural field to date, with the marketability rate of graduates from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under the ministry increasing to 81 percent in 2024 compared to 78 percent the previous year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (KPKM) in a statement on Thursday announced that the agri-food sector is now categorised as a national strategic agenda following the impact of global crises such as climate change, geopolitical uncertainties and the global energy crisis which affect logistics costs and food supply security.

“To address this impact, the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, remains committed to strengthening this sector based on the National Agro-Food Policy 2021-2030 (DAN 2.0), the National Food Security Policy 2030 (DKMN 2030), MADANI Agro Sales and the NextGen Agropreneur Grant initiative,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that 750 graduates of the Agricultural TVET Training Institute (ILTP) under the ministry who completed their studies last year were celebrated yesterday at the 14th Agricultural Convocation Ceremony officiated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Chan Foong Hin in Bangi, Selangor.

According to the statement, they consist of 49 Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM) graduates, Malaysian Skills Certificate (312), Agricultural Certificate (350), Malaysian Veterinary Certificate (28) and Fisheries Certificate (11).

“The ceremony also saw the presentation of seven Special Awards for outstanding achievements throughout their studies,” the statement said.

KPKM informed that all the graduates concerned had followed 10 skills certification areas including Crops, Ruminant Livestock, Poultry Livestock, Capture Fisheries Technology and Marine Aquaculture, in addition to three certifications from departments under KPKM, namely the Agricultural Certificate, Malaysian Veterinary Certificate and Fisheries Certificate which are offered at 16 ILTPs nationwide.
