TNB–TM Expand Green Energy And Digital Infrastructure For Customer Benefit

KUALA LUMPUR — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Telekom Malaysia (TM) have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening green energy solutions and developing smarter, more sustainable energy and telecommunications infrastructure nationwide.

The partnership was formalised through the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on March 9, combining the green energy and digital expertise of both companies in support of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda.

Under the collaboration, the two companies will focus on sustainable energy solutions, digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver direct benefits to customers.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Shamsul Ahmad, said the initial phase of the partnership includes assessing the installation of solar systems at up to 150 TM premises, while expanding solar adoption among more residential Unifi Home customers annually.

“Through GSPARX, solar system packages will continue to be enhanced to provide greater value to consumers. In addition, the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging station networks is also being planned under this collaboration,” he said.

He added that the expansion of EV charging infrastructure would provide users with greater access to convenient charging locations, improving overall convenience and user experience.

Shamsul also reaffirmed TNB’s commitment to supporting the NETR in increasing renewable energy adoption and strengthening the nation’s transition towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

Meanwhile, Group Chief Executive Officer of Telekom Malaysia, Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, said the collaboration reflects the role of both organisations as key pillars of Malaysia’s critical infrastructure.

“By combining TNB’s leadership in renewable energy with TM’s strengths in nationwide digital infrastructure, connectivity and AI capabilities, this partnership will create value for both organisations,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligns with TM’s Digital Powerhouse 2030 aspirations to empower digital transformation across key national sectors.

The collaboration will focus on three main areas, including the implementation of green energy initiatives such as solar installations on buildings, bundled solar solutions and the expansion of EV charging networks through TNB solutions including GSPARX and TNB Electron.

Both companies will also explore digital technology and innovation initiatives to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance customer experience and support the development of a sustainable and resilient digital ecosystem.

In addition, TNB and TM will assess more structured approaches to sourcing existing information and communications technology (ICT) services to improve price alignment, strengthen the supply chain and enhance long-term digital readiness.

Customers are expected to benefit from reduced operational costs, improved access to EV charging facilities at selected locations and the use of smart digital systems and AI-driven analytics to monitor energy consumption.

These technologies will enable earlier detection of disruptions and faster restoration of power services, enhancing the overall customer experience.

The two companies have maintained a long-standing working relationship, including communications network support for major substations, SMS services, cloud contact centre services and collaboration in green energy initiatives.

As of Dec 31, 2025, GSPARX — established in January 2018 — has secured more than 530 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar projects across more than 3,000 residential and commercial premises.

Meanwhile, TNB has deployed around 256 EV charging stations nationwide under the TNB Electron network, providing grid facilities and electrical support for EV charging operations.
