KAJANG, July 20 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the overwhelming turnout of Malaysians at Bangi Square 2 to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final as a testament to the nation’s enduring unity and harmony across different races, religions, and backgrounds.
He said the presence of thousands of football fans during the final match demonstrated how sports continue to serve as a powerful platform for bringing people together and strengthening bonds among Malaysians.
According to Zahid, the vibrant atmosphere reflected Malaysia’s unique identity as a multicultural nation where people can gather in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect to celebrate a shared passion.
“The beauty of Malaysia lies not only in its diversity but also in the ability of its people to come together regardless of race, religion, or background,” he said in a social media post on Monday.
He also expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event and to the thousands of supporters who attended and helped create a memorable atmosphere.
Zahid said that while the tournament ultimately crowned a new world champion, what mattered most was the sense of togetherness, friendship, and lasting memories created throughout the gathering.
Following the event, the Deputy Prime Minister also participated in the Semarak Subuh Programme at Surau Al-Hamidiah in Kajang early Monday morning.
He said the programme, which included qiyam (late-night prayers) followed by congregational Subuh prayers, served as a meaningful platform to strengthen brotherhood and foster spiritual values within the community.
Zahid expressed hope that the spirit of unity demonstrated through both community and religious programmes would continue to be nurtured, ensuring Malaysia remains peaceful, united, and blessed.
“May the bonds of brotherhood we have built continue to flourish and bring blessings to our people and our nation,” he said.
