11 gold miners killed in landslide in eastern Madagascar

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA: Eleven gold miners were killed in a landslide at a mine in eastern Madagascar, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing authorities on Wednesday.

Initial investigations found that the victim was working overnight when the landslide occurred at a mining site in Vatomandry, thus complicating rescue operations.

“Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances of the landslide. The mayor of the town has ordered the immediate closure of the site to prevent any further mining activities and reduce the risk of another incident,” L’Express de Madagascar reported on Wednesday.
