KUALA LUMPUR, 14 APRIL -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today officiated the Malaysia Sepak Takraw Academy Complex, describing it as a symbol of determination, hard work and commitment by the nation’s sepak takraw community to restore the sport’s glory. He said sepak takraw is not merely a game, but a national identity that reflects discipline, resilience and the beauty of a traditional sport that has long brought pride to Malaysia on the world stage. According to him, the journey has not been without challenges, but the spirit to rise again is now stronger than ever. “We have experienced both setbacks and successes, but today we rise with greater determination to restore the glory of sepak takraw,” he said. Anwar also called on the younger generation to fully utilise the academy’s facilities to hone their talents, build character and instil a strong sense of patriotism. “We aim to produce a generation of athletes who not only excel on the court, but also possess the strength of character to uphold the nation’s dignity,” he added. He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring the complex becomes a starting point for a new era of resurgence, positioning Malaysia once again as a formidable force in the international sepak takraw arena. HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER, TRAFFIC POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED

KUALA LUMPUR -- Police have arrested a driver suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run incident involving a traffic police officer on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, here last Friday. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) head ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed that the suspect was arrested this evening to assist in the investigation into the case. "The suspect was arrested this evening and the police are currently in the process of preparing a report and conducting a urine and breathalyzer test (EBA) on the suspect," he said. Earlier, a video recording went viral showing a vehicle trying to flee until it crashed into a four-wheel drive vehicle while being chased by traffic police officers. In the incident at 10.47pm last Friday, a 27-year-old traffic police constable was injured after being hit from behind by the vehicle involved while carrying out traffic control duties at the intersection. The driver of the car then fled towards the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) without stopping to provide assistance to the victim. The victim, who suffered wounds to his right palm and the back of his head, as well as pain in his ribs, was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by a Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) ambulance.
