Deputy IGP Calls for Stronger Integrity to Uphold Excellence in Police Force

KUANTAN, June 5 -- Strengthening integrity remains a fundamental pillar that must be reinforced among all personnel of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure excellence in service delivery, while effective supervision by senior officers must be aligned with established directives and actions. This was emphasised by Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay during a gathering and address with PDRM personnel from the Pahang contingent at Dewan Tun Razak here on Friday. Upon arrival, Tan Sri Ayob Khan was welcomed by Pahang Police Chief Dato’ Sri Yahaya Othman before attending a courtesy visit session and signing the visitors’ book. In his address, Tan Sri Ayob Khan urged all members of the police force to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, integrity and a strong sense of accountability, while remaining steadfast in upholding religious values and high moral principles. PM Anwar: Tuanku Muhriz Still Recognised as Negeri Sembilan Ruler

KUALA LUMPUR, JUN 5 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s full support for Negeri Sembilan Ruler Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and the state administration led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, warning that any attempt to pressure or intimidate the monarchy could threaten national security and public order. Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Meranti here, Anwar stressed that constitutional disputes involving royal institutions must be addressed through lawful and established channels. “Threatening or forcing any ruler to act would have a very negative impact on the country and its security,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that rulers are bound by constitutional provisions, legal frameworks and longstanding customs, adding that actions perceived as undermining the institution of the monarchy should be avoided. While acknowledging the right of individuals to pursue legal and constitutional remedies, Anwar said any challenge must be supported by sound legal arguments and resolved through due process. “I have conveyed my views directly to Tuanku Muhriz. All parties should respect the constitutional mechanisms available in addressing this matter,” he said. Referring to recent developments surrounding the ongoing royal dispute in Negeri Sembilan, Anwar said an event held at a hotel had not affected the standing or dignity of Tuanku Muhriz. Nevertheless, he noted that governments have a responsibility to provide appropriate advice on matters involving royal institutions. “The monarchy is not merely symbolic. It carries dignity, traditions and established procedures that must be upheld. “As a government, we remain committed to defending the dignity of the monarchy and the sovereignty of the institution,” he said. Anwar reiterated that the Federal Government continues to recognise Tuanku Muhriz as the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and urged those with differing views to pursue their concerns through constitutional channels without creating public anxiety or disrupting state administration. The Prime Minister also expressed strong support for Aminuddin’s proposal to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly and seek a fresh mandate through state elections. According to Anwar, the proposal had received the consent of Tuanku Muhriz and offered the best path forward in resolving the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing dispute. “Because of the confusion and uncertainty surrounding the matter, I fully support the Menteri Besar’s position that the best course of action is to hold an election, and Tuanku Muhriz has consented to it,” he said. Anwar concluded by reaffirming Putrajaya’s backing for both Tuanku Muhriz and the Negeri Sembilan government. “We are still with Tuanku Muhriz and the state government. If there are other views, they should be pursued through the proper channels. We will not obstruct that process, but there are clear reasons why the current approach should continue,” he added. --PRESSKL

Crude oil, condensate production drops 5.5 percent to 43 million barrels – DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR,JUNE 5 -- Crude oil and condensate production recorded a year-on-year decrease of 5.5 percent to 43 million barrels in the first quarter of 2026 (Q1 2026) compared to 45.5 million barrels for the same period last year. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the decline was due to a reduction in crude oil production, which contracted by 9.4 percent to 28.1 million barrels from 31.5 million barrels previously. "However, condensate production showed growth of 3.0 percent to 14.9 million barrels compared to 14.4 million barrels in the first quarter of 2025," he said in a statement today. The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today released Petroleum and Natural Gas Mining Statistics for the First Quarter of 2026. Water tariffs in Penang cannot be delayed – Exco

GEORGE TOWN: The implementation of the new water tariff in Penang, which begins on July 1, cannot be delayed because the measure is important to ensure that various development projects and infrastructure upgrades can be implemented to guarantee the continuity of water supply in the future. State Transport, Infrastructure and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the profits currently recorded by the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) were not sufficient to fund various large-scale projects planned to meet the increasing demand for water. "Among the projects that are currently being implemented and will be implemented are the construction of the Mengkuang Water Treatment Plant (LRA), two new LRAs in Sungai Krian with a capacity of 80 million litres per day (MLD) and 114 MLD, raw water intake projects in Sungai Prai and Sungai Muda, and the replacement of old pipes. "Each water treatment plant costs hundreds of millions of ringgit, all these projects require large funds and cannot be delayed because it is important to guarantee water supply in the future," he said at a press conference at Komtar, today. He was commenting on calls from several parties for the state government to delay the implementation of the new water tariff and provide an open explanation of the utility company's financial position, administrative expenses and future development plans. Commenting further, Zairil said that among the factors that contributed to delays in the development of water supply infrastructure in the past was tariff rates that were too low, which limited PBAPP's ability to invest in new facilities. "If the tariff is too low, the income generated will not be enough to make investments in infrastructure, which is why we need to increase PBAPP funds so that all planned projects can be implemented according to schedule," he said. At the same time, he stressed that PBAPP and the state government continue to take into account the interests of domestic consumers, especially those who use water at low rates, by ensuring that tariff increases for consumption of less than 35,000 litres of water per month remain at a controlled level. Yesterday, the state government announced that Penang will implement new water tariff rates for domestic and non-domestic consumers starting July 1 after its implementation was postponed for 12 months. The adjustment involves 82 percent of domestic consumers or households who use 35 cubic metres of water or less per month, with an increase of 8.5 sen or RM2.55 per month. -- BERNAMA

AI Agents Are Already Doing the Work–The Real Challenge is Redesigning It

SINGAPORE, June 5 -- Agentic AI adoption is already taking shape, with 15% of business leaders strongly agreeing that tasks within their organisations are supported by AI agents, particularly in functions such as data analysis and reporting (46%), compliance (30%), customer support and service (30%), IT and cybersecurity (29%), and marketing and sales enablement (28%). As adoption advances, organisations are grappling with how this shift is being managed. While AI agents are taking on more responsibility within workflows, the structures that define governance, accountability and workforce readiness are not always evolving at the same pace. One area where this disconnect is most visible is in formal job scopes. Only 27% of business leaders say job scopes accurately reflect the involvement of AI agents, while 42% report that AI agent responsibilities are under-represented and 25% say job scopes have not been updated at all. This misalignment indicates that while AI agents are influencing daily work, yet responsibility for supervision, decision‑making and outcomes is not always clearly defined. These structural gaps are reflected in the levels of confidence among leaders. More than a quarter of business leaders say they are not confident in their ability in supervising AI agents (24% are not very confident, 2% are not confident at all), and a further 24% report that accountability is unclear when AI agents are involved in decisions. These findings point to ongoing challenges in supervision and governance as AI agents are integrated into organisational decision‑making. These are some of the key findings from NTUC LearningHub's Industry Insights Report on Agentic AI and Organisational Transformation, which surveyed 200 business leaders to examine how agentic AI is reshaping job control, decision-making and accountability. All respondents have experience working with agentic AI in their roles, with 24% reporting it as a regular and integral part of their daily work and a further 33% engaging with it frequently. In terms of decision‑making involvement, 31% lead or directly influence decisions on AI agents, while 49% provide input and recommendations. Challenges around measurement and oversight add further complexity. Fairness and bias are cited by 39% of business leaders as the most difficult AI agent performance area to quantify, followed by accountability attribution (36%). While many organisations can track productivity and cost metrics, assessing how AI agents perform across these harder‑to‑measure dimensions is a key issue. At the same time, workforce readiness is failing to keep pace with the speed of adoption. The most significant workforce challenge organisations face is the lack of skills required for AI-augmented roles, cited by 44% of business leaders. This is followed closely by difficulty measuring individual and team performance fairly in AI-integrated environments (43%) and limited access to relevant training and upskilling opportunities (42%). As AI agents undertake more tasks, job scopes and role definitions may not be reflecting how work is actually being done. The shift towards agentic AI is also reshaping demand for specific roles and capabilities. Business leaders report that the most sought‑after job functions driven by the emergence of AI agents are data privacy and protection (46%), followed by AI operations and performance monitoring (45%), AI risk and compliance (43%), AI workflow integration (42%) and AI security and threat management (42%). Alongside this, the competencies that organisations prioritise are also evolving. The top emerging competency cited by business leaders is critical thinking when working with agentic AI‑generated outputs (38%), followed by change management and agentic AI adoption leadership (37%), cross‑functional and human–AI team coordination (35%), agentic AI governance, accountability and regulatory compliance (34%), and ethical judgement and responsible agentic AI deployment (34%). Together, these findings highlight a shift towards skills that support oversight, judgement and coordination as AI agents become more embedded in organisational workflows. Despite widespread AI adoption, human judgement is central. The most important criterion for trusting AI agents cited by 37% of business leaders, is ensuring that a human remains in the loop to review and approve AI recommendations before any action is taken. This highlights that even as AI systems become more autonomous, organisations still depend heavily on human oversight to manage risk, accountability and ethical considerations. Commenting on the report's findings, Mr Amos Tan, Assistant Chief Executive and Chief Core Skills Officer, NTUC LearningHub, says, "AI agents are already embedded in daily operations, but many organisations are scaling faster than what their workforce and control structures can manage. As AI systems take on more autonomous decision‑making, gaps in supervision, accountability and governance become real risks if not thought through and properly designed. Our findings suggest that without deliberate investment in skills such as AI oversight, critical thinking and ethical judgement, organisations may struggle to maintain trust and control as AI adoption accelerates. To scale agentic AI responsibly, companies must redesign roles, update job scopes and strengthen human capabilities in parallel—because while AI may act, accountability must ultimately rest with people." As agentic AI becomes embedded in day-to-day operations, organisations face a defining choice—continue accelerating adoption without adequate control, or invest in the workforce, governance and operating models needed to manage autonomous systems responsibly at scale.
