PM Anwar Calls for Greater Role of Religious Leaders in Promoting Peace and Humanity at International Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday has underscored the critical role of religious leaders in fostering peace, justice and compassion amid growing global conflicts and divisions. Speaking at the Third International Religious Leaders' Summit, which gathered religious leaders, scholars, academics and policymakers from 31 countries, Anwar said the voice of faith-based leaders is increasingly important in navigating an uncertain and fragmented world. The Prime Minister also conveyed his appreciation to the Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who officiated the summit and delivered the keynote address. Anwar stressed that efforts to achieve peace should not be left solely to political considerations, but must also be guided by universal values of humanity, justice and compassion. “In a world environment that is increasingly filled with conflict, division and uncertainty, the role of religious leaders as voices of conscience, moderation and wisdom has become more crucial than ever,” he said. He highlighted ongoing humanitarian crises, including the tragedy in Gaza and conflicts in other parts of the world, calling for greater moral leadership in addressing global challenges. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to mutual respect, religious freedom and harmonious coexistence, principles enshrined in the Federal Constitution. “As a plural society, Malaysia believes that true strength lies not in uniformity, but in the ability to manage differences fairly, wisely and respectfully,” he said. Anwar also cautioned against the misuse of religion as a tool to incite hatred and division, emphasising that faith should instead serve as a force for peace, unity and the protection of human dignity regardless of race, religion or background. He expressed hope that international dialogues and forums such as the summit would continue to strengthen understanding among communities and inspire collective efforts towards building a more peaceful, just and humane world. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM
