Nearly 6,000 Personnel To Be Deployed During N. Sembilan Polls – Police

SEREMBAN, June 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 5,953 police personnel and members of other agencies will be deployed throughout the Negeri Sembilan state election period to ensure the democratic process proceeds smoothly and remains orderly. State police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the figure comprises 4,845 senior police officers and rank-and-file personnel, while the remainder will serve as support personnel, including members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and police volunteer reserve. “We are maintaining a high level of readiness through various comprehensive preparations that have been put in place from the outset, including security measures, traffic control, monitoring of campaign activities, law enforcement, and preparations for any eventuality throughout the election period,” he told Bernama today. He said the police would continue to conduct ongoing assessments and have not ruled out the possibility of seeking additional assistance from other contingents if necessary to strengthen existing resources and ensure operational requirements are carried out more effectively. Meanwhile, Alzafny said the police would continue to respect the right of all parties to conduct campaign activities as provided for under the law. “Accordingly, security monitoring and control measures will be intensified to ensure that all campaign activities, including political ceramah, party processions and election-related programmes, are conducted peacefully and in compliance with regulations set by the authorities,” he said. He said stern action would be taken against any individual or party found violating the law, inciting provocation, or engaging in any act that could disrupt public order and undermine the smooth conduct of the democratic process. He also urged all political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public to uphold a culture of political maturity, respect differing views and comply with the law throughout the campaign period. The public was also advised not to engage in any form of provocation, dissemination of false information, or actions that could create tension and jeopardise social harmony. Ringgit opens higher on better market sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 15 -- The ringgit continued its upward momentum by opening higher on Monday against the US dollar and other major currencies, supported by improved risk sentiment following signs of easing geopolitical tensions. At 8am, the local currency rose to 4.0430/0500 against the US dollar from 4.0555/0600 at the close last Friday. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd Chief Economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said news of the possibility of the Strait of Hormuz being reopened following the agreement between the United States and Iran on a peace deal scheduled to be signed on June 19 had boosted market sentiment. “WTI and Brent crude oil prices have fallen by more than four percent, with Brent crude now trading at US$83.83 per barrel. "In my view, the ringgit is heading towards RM4.00 against the US dollar. It may not be at that level immediately but being below RM4.00 is in line with the fair value of the ringgit based on the current macroeconomic conditions and the resilience of Malaysia's economic growth," he told Bernama. In the opening session, the local currency strengthened against a basket of major currencies. The ringgit rose against the Japanese yen to 2.5275/5320 from 2.5334/5364 at last Friday's close, rose against the pound to 5.4374/4468 from 5.4429/4489 and gained against the euro to 4.6911/6992 from 4.6979/7031 previously. The local currency also strengthened against regional currencies. The ringgit rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.1554/1611 from 3.1602/1640 last Friday and surged against the Thai baht to 12.4015/4298 from 12.4105/4288 previously. The local currency also rose against the Indonesian rupiah to 226.3/226.8 from 227.0/227.4 and increased against the Philippine peso to 6.65/6.66 from 6.67/6.68 previously. -- BERNAMA

KBS agrees to increase allocation for Penang Community Sports Fund

BUKIT MERTAJAM, JUNE 15 -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has agreed to increase the Community Sports Fund (DSK) allocation for Penang after the state became one of the earliest and fastest to fully utilize the RM800,000 funds channeled this year. Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) will submit an application to obtain the additional allocation. "Penang is among the earliest and fastest to complete the DSK. JBSN will submit an application and I agree for Penang to receive additional funds." "I request youth organisations to use the funds as best as possible, move to the grassroots level and ensure that programmes continue to be implemented," he said when officiating the National Youth Day 2026 celebration at the Penang level on Sunday night. Also present was the state Youth, Sports and Health Committee Chairman, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen. Mohammed Taufiq said that DSK does not just support sports activities and efforts to produce more athletes, but also serves as a platform to connect young people with the local community. He said that KBS also channeled a Sports Matching Grant for Window 1 and Window 2 totaling RM500,000 as well as assistance to the 2026 Youth Organisation of RM106,000 to Penang. According to him, the allocation is among the government's investments to expand access to community sports activities, empower youth organisations, promote healthy lifestyles and increase young people's participation in youth development and sports programmes. "I want youth organisations in Penang to actively apply for SejaTi MADANI funds after the Prime Minister approved an allocation of RM250 million for the benefit of youth organisations nationwide. "Youth development programs need to be implemented continuously and not just once so that they can have a high impact and direct benefits for the group concerned," he said. -- BERNAMA
