PUTRAJAYA, June 15 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday received a courtesy visit from Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Alissa, in Putrajaya, where both leaders exchanged views on developments in the Islamic world and efforts to strengthen interfaith understanding. In a statement today, Anwar said the discussions highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue and cooperation among religious communities amid growing global challenges and tensions. The Prime Minister noted that both sides were encouraged by the success of the recent 3rd International Religious Leaders' Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, which brought together religious leaders, scholars and community representatives from various countries and backgrounds. He described the summit as an important platform for promoting mutual understanding, bridging differences and cultivating a mature culture of dialogue among diverse communities. During the meeting, Alissa also shared his views on Malaysia’s growing role in strengthening ties between the Islamic world and the international community, including efforts to foster greater understanding between Eastern and Western societies. Anwar expressed appreciation for the Muslim World League’s active role in promoting moderation, peace and interfaith cooperation at a time when conflicts and tensions continue to affect many parts of the world.
