KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — The Better SPM Brighter Future Programme is giving 1,600 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates from 40 secondary schools across Kuala Lumpur a valuable academic boost to prepare for their exams.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan(YWP) chairman Hannah Yeoh said the free tuition programme was implemented to help students make more thorough preparations without burdening parents with the cost of extra classes.
“Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) contributed RM276,200 to YWP to carry out the programme in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territories Education Department,” she said after launching the programme at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Kuala Lumpur today.
She said the programme focuses on four key subjects: Bahasa Melayu, English, History, and Mathematics.
Meanwhile, Hannah said her remarks on the piles of rubbish at Dataran Merdeka after the recent World Cup final screening were not intended to criticise any party, but rather to educate the public on being more responsible for cleanliness.
“We want to educate the public not to treat cleaning up rubbish as someone else’s responsibility or as a job for foreign workers. Children also learn by following the example set by adults,” she said.
She said Kuala Lumpur City Hall will continue to keep Dataran Merdeka accessible to the public, emphasising that it is a recreational space that should be used responsibly.
