PUTRAJAYA, Oct 30 – The Cabinet has agreed to revise the guidelines for managing abandoned vehicles to make their removal and disposal faster.
The decision follows complaints about lengthy procedures and poor coordination among enforcement agencies.
Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the proposed changes were put forward by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
He said the existing process could take too long. Better coordination between the agencies involved is also needed.
Fahmi shared the update during a press conference after the Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya today.
Government Reviews Rules on Abandoned Vehicles
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said his ministry was reviewing the existing legal provisions to address the abandoned vehicle issue.
The proposed improvements aim to clarify the responsibilities of the relevant authorities. They are also expected to speed up enforcement and disposal procedures.
However, Nga stressed that the changes must protect vehicle owners’ rights.
KPKT and Transport Ministry to Lead Improvements
Fahmi said the next steps would be handled by KPKT and the Transport Ministry.
The two ministries will work on the proposed amendments to improve the current procedures and coordination.
The changes are intended to help authorities deal with abandoned vehicles more efficiently while ensuring that the rights of vehicle owners remain protected.
