KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 23 — Police believe they have succeeded in dismantling the organised crime group, the Vinod Gang, which is active in committing violent crimes around Selangor, with the arrest of 11 of its members.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said all the men, aged between 21 and 34, were arrested through a special operation called ‘Ops Rapido’ which was carried out on June 23 and 24.
He said the group, which has been active since 2023, is led by a 30-year-old local man and has 17 members consisting of repeat criminals.
“We have identified the identities of five other members of the group who are still at large and efforts are underway to locate them.
“These arrests helped solve 21 cases and cripple an armed robbery syndicate in Selangor,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar said all 11 suspects are now remanded under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and will be brought before the Sepang, Selangor Sessions Court at 9.30 am tomorrow.
“The organised crime investigation paper was referred to the Serious Crime Unit (SCU), Attorney General’s Chambers on July 17 and received a charge order under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code,” he said.
The group’s modus operandi, he said, was to commit robberies armed with machetes or sharp weapons, targeting residential premises to gain material gain, power or influence.
“They were involved in various violent crime cases such as gang robbery, attempted murder, rioting with weapons, causing injury using weapons and treachery,” he said.
Apart from that, he said, all the suspects also have various past criminal records including burglary, criminal threats, extortion and drug trafficking-related offences.
