SEPANG: A total of 11 men were arraigned in the Sessions Court here today on charges of being members of an organised crime group known as the Vinod Gang, from two years ago.
They are Muhammad Vinod Saktivel, 30 who is believed to be the leader of the group, M. Puvaneswaran, 34, Lawrence Alfred, 34, G. Sanggeethan, 31, M. Naviedran, 29, S. Sri Tharan, 27, M. Surenthar, 27, NAN Viknesvar, J. M. Kishaan, 27, 27 R. Shervinkumar, 23, and T. Saarvin, 21.
No plea was recorded after the charge was read out before Judge Husna Dzulkifly because the case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
They are alleged to have been members of the group in Bandar Rimbayu, Telok Panglima Garang between April 2024 and June 27, 2026 and the charge was made under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Chow Siang Kong and Muhammad Syahrezal Mohd Shukri while the man was represented by lawyers T. Mishant and S. Devan.
The court set Sept 14 for mention of the case.
Earlier, they all arrived at the court premises at about 9 am under tight security by members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ).
Previously, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk M. Kumar said the group was believed to be active in various violent crimes including gang robbery, attempted murder, armed riots, causing injuries using weapons and treachery.
The arrest of members of the group through Ops Rapido led by the Bukit Aman Special Crimes Unit in collaboration with the Selangor Special Crimes Unit on June 23 and 24, solved 21 cases and crippled an active armed robbery syndicate in Selangor.
