KUALA LUMPUR: An Immigration Department lorry driver was brought before the Magistrates’ Court today following a fatal crash at the Jalan Sultan Ismail–Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman intersection that claimed the lives of three members of a family.
The 43-year-old driver is facing five charges, including three counts linked to the deaths of a 53-year-old father and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12. The victims were struck after the Immigration lorry lost control during the early-morning collision.
The incident occurred at about 1am on Wednesday. Police said the Immigration lorry collided with a Proton Saga before veering into pedestrians waiting to cross the road and subsequently hitting another vehicle.
The victims’ 55-year-old mother was also seriously injured and remains under treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The lorry driver has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case follows an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are continuing investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage and obtaining statements from witnesses. A second driver involved in the crash is also being investigated.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations and court proceedings are ongoing.
