Nepal Floods: Woman Made Video Call Before Losing Contact with Family

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 August 2026 — A Malaysian woman, identified as 52-year-old M. Venilla, managed to make a video call with her family before contact with her was lost following severe flooding in Nepal.

Venilla was believed to be in an area near the Nepal-China border while taking part in a mountain expedition with 35 other Malaysians.

Her family became increasingly concerned after communication was cut off and repeated attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

The incident occurred as floods and landslides were reported to have affected several areas in Nepal, with a number of Malaysians reportedly still uncontactable.

Malaysian authorities are working to determine the whereabouts and safety of Malaysians affected by the disaster and are coordinating efforts to assist those in the affected areas.
