KUALA LUMPUR, September 11 2026, UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) will unveil the “Blue Malaysia Agenda” to chart the country’s path towards 100 years of independence should the coalition return to Putrajaya, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The UMNO president said the agenda went beyond a “blue wave”, reflecting aspirations to build a sovereign, united and innovative Malaysia that achieves high-income status, with prosperity shared equitably and the nation respected globally.
“Through the Blue Malaysia Agenda, we aim to generate national wealth, rebuild human capital, expand ownership, safeguard well-being, address crises, protect the people, build trust and defend national interests,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said this while delivering his Presidential Policy Speech at the 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.
Also present were UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; vice-presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani; and secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the “Blue Malaysia Agenda” would comprise eight key initiatives, including transforming Malaysia into a creator nation.
“We want the world to use technology created by our people and support Malaysian brands. We want to move from producing goods that are ‘Made in Malaysia’ to those that are ‘Made by Malaysia’.
“The country must set targets for high-tech companies and global-standard industries that are created, designed and owned by Malaysians,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said UMNO, BN and their political allies also aimed to transform Malaysia into a “Skills Nation” by making Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) a mainstream education pathway.
“We want our children from polytechnics, GIATMARA, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) TVET programmes, MARA Skills Institutes, professional Huffaz and pondok schools to join hands in shaping Malaysia into a ‘Skills Nation’.”
“We aim for 80 per cent of the nation’s workforce to be highly skilled and earn premium wages,” the Minister of Rural and Regional Development said.
Ahmad Zahid said UMNO and BN also aimed to build a prosperous Malaysia by redefining economic success, including setting a target for every family to have at least 30 per cent of its income as disposable income after meeting basic needs, allowing them to save, invest and enjoy life.
Through the Blue Malaysia Agenda, he said the coalition would also realign national priorities, including restructuring the taxation system with reasonable rates for taxes such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
He said the agenda would also streamline social security for the people, facilitate business operations and develop regional economies based on the respective strengths of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
“At the same time, we want to renew our commitment to civil servants, safeguard teachers’ welfare, bring Islamic muamalah into the mainstream and ensure the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) is implemented as a whole-of-government agenda,” he said.
The 2026 UMNO General Assembly, attended by 3,016 delegates, is being held from Sept 9 to 12.
