GUA MUSANG, September 19 2026, The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 23-year-old male hiker who became separated from his group while hiking near Kem Tudung Periuk, Gua Musang.
The hiker, identified as Muhammad Asrul Quyyum Asmmuddin, is believed to have slipped from the trail and fallen down a slope. He was reported to have sustained no serious injuries and was still able to walk.
JBPM managed to establish contact with him despite unstable phone coverage, after he shared his location through WhatsApp.
He was instructed to remain at his location, conserve his phone battery and torchlight, and use his whistle at intervals to help rescuers locate him.
The Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station received the emergency call at 8.08 pm and deployed a Fire Rescue Tender and a Hilux vehicle to the site, located about 116 kilometres from the station.
The SAR operation was ongoing when the report was issued.
