KUANTAN, September 26 2026, A 50-year-old farmer and agricultural product trader in Pahang lost more than RM1.15 million after falling victim to a love scam and fraudulent investment scheme.
Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the victim befriended an individual known as Siew Gui Lim @ Jason via WhatsApp on July 17.
The suspect allegedly posed as a cybersecurity consulting director and offered the victim a gold investment, promising lucrative returns.
After she made payments, the suspect introduced another platform called “Veniec Lottery”, claiming it could help recover her investment.
The victim was then persuaded to make several additional deposits to receive profits and bonuses.
Police said she eventually transferred a total of RM1,150,034.70 to seven bank accounts, using her savings and loans from family members.
She later realised she had been scammed after being unable to withdraw the money.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
Police advised the public to verify bank account and phone numbers through Semak Mule before making financial transactions.
Anyone who suspects they have fallen victim to a scam should contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 or lodge a police report.
