Malaysia Gold Price Outlook for 2026

Local Gold Prices May Remain Stable Until Year-End, Economist Says

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 – Gold prices in Malaysia may remain stable or rise slightly towards the end of 2026, according to an economist.

Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia emeritus professor Dr Barjoyai Bardai said global uncertainty and changes in the world economy could influence gold prices in the coming months.

Speaking on Bernama TV’s Fokus 15 programme on Monday, he said the market may provide a clearer picture of gold price movements after the end of this year.

Global Gold Prices Face Short-Term Pressure

Gold futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed lower on Friday. The decline followed weaker performance on the New York Commodity Exchange (COMEX).

The October 2026 contract fell to US$3,981.10 per troy ounce from US$4,024.90 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the November contract dropped to US$4,003.00 per troy ounce from US$4,040.50.

Barjoyai said spot gold prices could fall further if selling pressure continues. He estimated that prices could dip to around US$3,950 per ounce before recovering.

In the medium term, he expects prices could move within the US$4,100 to US$4,200 range.

Gold Could Offer Long-Term Investment Potential

Despite the recent decline, Barjoyai said gold could still attract investors seeking to protect the value of their savings.

However, he cautioned that gold does not guarantee immediate profits. Investors generally earn a profit only when they sell their holdings at a higher price than they paid.

He also noted that a fall in prices could create an opportunity for some investors to increase their gold holdings. However, they should consider both short-term risks and long-term market trends.

Global Gold Price Forecasts Remain in Focus

Barjoyai cited a JPMorgan report that projected global gold prices could reach US$6,000 per ounce by the end of 2026 and US$6,300 by the end of 2027.

These figures are forecasts, not guaranteed outcomes.

He said gold prices tend to move in longer cycles, sometimes lasting 20 to 30 years. Therefore, investors should consider their investment goals and the time they can afford to hold the asset.

Barjoyai added that gold may offer long-term gains, but investors could need to wait if prices remain flat in the short term.
