KUALA LUMPUR, September 29 2026, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said he will remain in office until former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak begins serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Loke said he handed his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday after the two discussed the matter.

According to Loke, Anwar asked him to continue performing his duties for the time being, while a decision on his resignation would be made later.

Loke said he had set a timeframe for his resignation, which would take effect when Najib returns home to serve his sentence under house arrest.

He explained that his decision to resign was made by DAP as the party’s response to the conditional pardon granted to Najib.

Loke also confirmed that DAP will remain part of the Federal Government, with its other ministers continuing to serve in the Cabinet.

On Sept 18, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim consented to a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.

Najib remains in Kajang Prison pending fulfilment of the conditions and the necessary official process for implementing the house arrest arrangement.
