Ahmad Zahid Receives Khairy’s Appeal Letter to Rejoin UMNO

KUALA LUMPUR — UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that he had received a letter of appeal from former UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin to rejoin the party.

Ahmad Zahid said the application was received from Khairy, who is also a former Rembau Member of Parliament, who was present to submit a letter of appeal to rejoin UMNO, yesterday.

“God willing, I have personally received this application and it will be extended to the Rumah Bangsa Unification Committee chaired by Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (UMNO Vice President) to be refined and approved accordingly,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said in line with the true meaning of Rumah Bangsa, it is an effort to rediscover those who were separated, bring together those who were once distant and reunite them in one big family of struggle.

“In the course of this struggle, as I often say, the big one has passed, the big one is connected. What is more important is to find a way to unite, not to let division continue to separate us.

“Hopefully, the House of the Nation will be the basis for us to reunite hearts that were once separated, strengthen the ranks of the struggle, and restore the strength of UMNO as the political leader of the Malays and Muslims in this country,” he said.

On March 6, Ahmad Zahid said UMNO was opening its doors wide to any former members who had been sacked, suspended and individuals who wanted to join the party’s struggle to join the party.

Ahmad Zahid said in the spirit of Ramadan, which is full of grace and forgiveness, all past mistakes and differences were fully forgiven to open a new chapter in efforts to strengthen the UMNO family.

Khairy, who is also the former Health Minister, was sacked from the party on Jan 23, 2023 for violating party discipline in accordance with the UMNO Constitution after the 15th General Election (GE15).

Previously, he had also openly criticised UMNO by claiming that the party had strayed from its original direction, as well as loudly criticising the party’s leadership and calling for internal reforms including UMNO’s top leadership after GE15.

Apart from contesting for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in GE15 on the Barisan Nasional ticket, he also contested for the UMNO presidential post in the 2018 party election.

Due to the risk of attacks and tensions in the narrow waters near Oman, many commercial ships are now changing their routes to routes closer to the Iranian coast, including the area around Larak Island. The move gives Iran a monitoring advantage as well as strengthening its control over maritime traffic in the strategic route. The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz peaked after the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, causing shipping traffic to almost come to a standstill and affecting global oil supplies. The Strait of Hormuz previously handled around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. With rising shipping costs and global oil prices, Iran is now trying to balance its economic interests while maintaining pressure on its perceived enemies. Free navigation access in the Strait of Hormuz is also one of the main points in the 15-point peace plan developed by the United States and sent to Iran via Pakistan. But so far, there is no sign that Tehran is willing to give up its strategic advantage without comprehensive security guarantees. Iran has said it will not relax control over the maritime route as long as the conflict continues, with several government sources insisting that pressure on the enemy will continue until there is a full ceasefire.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — Pandan Member of Parliament Rafizi Ramli has identified the individual referred to as “Mr R” in statements by businessman Victor Chin, alleging that the person is lawyer Sandraruben Neelamagham, also known as Ruben. Rafizi claimed that Ruben holds roles as a NexG corporate advisor and director of Solid HighTech, and is believed to act as an intermediary between a group described as a “corporate mafia” and key stakeholders in matters involving pressure on shareholders. According to Rafizi, communications between Victor Chin and Ruben suggest that “Mr R” operates on behalf of a more influential figure, often referencing a “boss” in their exchanges. He further linked the alleged “boss” to Farhash Wafa Salvador, a former political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Rafizi questioned whether the alleged influence of these individuals extended to directing authorities to exert pressure on NexG shareholders, and whether such connections played a role in securing a government contract worth billions of ringgit for NexG. “I have fulfilled my promise to reveal who Mr R is,” Rafizi said in a social media post, adding that the matter now warrants an explanation from the Prime Minister regarding the allegations raised.
