PUTRAJAYA, Oct 27 — The government has allocated RM3.28 million to 164 places of worship serving Malaysia’s Indian community.
The funding aims to support religious activities, community development and national unity.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) channelled the assistance through two programmes. They are Dharma MADANI and Harmoni MADANI.
The allocation covers Hindu temples, Sikh gurdwaras and Christian churches.
RM1.38 Million for Gurdwaras and Churches
The government approved RM1.38 million for 69 places of worship under the first series of the Harmoni MADANI programme.
The recipients include 57 Sikh gurdwaras and 12 Christian churches. Each institution will receive RM20,000.
The funding aims to strengthen their role in serving local communities.
RM1.9 Million for Hindu Temples
Another RM1.9 million has been allocated to 95 Hindu temples under Phase Two of the Dharma MADANI programme.
Ramanan said the funding would help places of worship expand their community activities. These include educational programmes, spiritual development, cultural events and youth empowerment.
The initiatives also support efforts to improve the socioeconomic well-being of the Indian community.
Total Dharma MADANI Aid Reaches RM15.42 Million
The latest allocation brings total assistance approved under the Dharma MADANI programme to RM15.42 million.
The programme has benefited 771 Hindu temples nationwide, according to Ramanan.
He said the government would continue assisting eligible places of worship. The aim is to strengthen community services and improve the well-being of the people they support.
