MELAKA, Oct 30 – A total of 189 nomination forms have been sold ahead of the 16th Melaka State Election, while 45 prospective candidates have paid their election deposits.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the figures were recorded as of Thursday night.
He also confirmed that 28 nomination centres would operate across the state on Saturday, Oct 31, from 9 am to 10 am.
The centres will open at the same time to receive nomination documents from candidates.
EC Urges Candidates to Arrive Early
Ramlan advised all prospective candidates to arrive early to allow election officers enough time to check their documents.
He said this would help prevent errors or incomplete paperwork that could affect a candidate’s eligibility to contest.
He made the remarks after observing a nomination-day simulation at Hang Jebat Stadium in Paya Rumput on Friday.
Election Officers Ready for Nomination Day
The EC chairman said all returning officers and staff at the 28 nomination centres had received the necessary training.
A total of 80 assistant returning officers and other officials will also support the 28 returning officers during the process.
Ramlan expressed confidence that the nomination process would run smoothly, including at centres managed by first-time returning officers.
Public Advised to Follow Election Rules
Meanwhile, Ramlan urged supporters of political parties to follow the EC’s instructions and maintain order around nomination centres.
He also advised the public to check for possible road closures near the centres.
These arrangements aim to ensure smooth movement and reduce traffic congestion during nomination day.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, fair weather is expected on Saturday. The EC hopes the conditions will allow the nomination process to proceed without disruption.
Melaka Election Dates Confirmed
The EC has set Oct 31 as nomination day for the 16th Melaka State Election.
Early voting will take place on Nov 10, while polling day is scheduled for Nov 14.
