Election Commission prepares 28 nomination centres for the Melaka state election

Melaka Election: 28 Nomination Centres to Open on Saturday

MELAKA, 29 October 2026 – The Election Commission (EC) will open 28 nomination centres this Saturday, October 31, for candidates contesting the Melaka state election.

Candidates must submit their nomination papers between 9 am and 10 am to the Returning Officer at their designated centres.

EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said candidates, their proposers and seconders must follow the required nomination procedures.

He said the papers could be submitted by the candidate, proposer and seconder together. Alternatively, any two of them or one person acting alone could submit the documents.

Candidates Urged to Prepare Documents Early

Khairul Shahril advised prospective candidates to complete their forms before nomination day.

He also encouraged them to check their documents with the Returning Officer’s office or the Melaka State Election Office in advance.

In addition, candidates should pay the required deposit before nomination day. They must bring the payment receipt as proof.

Candidates representing political parties must also submit an authorisation letter. This letter allows them to use their party’s symbol during the election.

EC Reminds Candidates to Follow Campaign Rules

The EC also reminded candidates and political parties to follow election laws and campaign regulations.

Candidates who have paid the deposit for campaign materials must comply with the Election Offences Act 1954 and the relevant local authority rules.

These rules include restrictions on using musical instruments or loudspeakers for political campaigning from vehicles.

Candidates and their supporters must also avoid loitering or remaining within 50 metres of the designated boundary on nomination day, as this is an offence under the law.

EC Calls for an Orderly Nomination Process

Khairul Shahril urged all candidates and political parties to follow instructions issued by the EC, local authorities and the Royal Malaysia Police.

He said compliance with the rules would help ensure that the nomination process runs smoothly and efficiently.

The nomination process is an important step in the Melaka state election, as candidates formally submit their papers to contest their respective seats.
