ALOR GAJAH, Oct 31 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) believes Malaysia’s improving economy and political stability could strengthen its position in the upcoming 16th Melaka state election on November 14.
PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the coalition must ensure voters understand the MADANI Government’s achievements during its nearly four years in power.
He highlighted the strengthening of the ringgit and the inflow of foreign investments as examples of progress that should be communicated clearly throughout the campaign.
PH Urged to Engage Directly With Voters
Ramanan, who is also Human Resources Minister, said PH candidates should meet voters face-to-face and explain the government’s achievements, initiatives and future plans.
He stressed that information about government policies and programmes must reach communities at the grassroots level.
Without effective communication, voters may not be aware of the measures already introduced by the government.
Ramanan made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Machap Jaya nomination centre in Bukit Bulat.
Fadhlina Highlights Ginie Lim’s Experience
Meanwhile, PKR Wanita chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said PH candidate Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin has experience in politics and is familiar to voters in Melaka.
Lim previously won the Machap Jaya state seat. She also served as a Melaka state executive councillor overseeing Women, Family Development, Welfare and Orang Asli Affairs.
Fadhlina said Lim’s background and previous service could help her connect with the local community.
However, she acknowledged that Lim would face a strong challenge from the incumbent, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem of Barisan Nasional (BN-MCA).
Fadhlina described the contest as closely matched, with both sides relying on their respective records and experience in public service.
She also welcomed PKR’s decision to field three women candidates in the Melaka state election.
Three Candidates to Contest Machap Jaya
The Machap Jaya seat will see a three-cornered contest involving Ginie Lim, Ngwe Hee Sem and B. Prasanth Kumar of Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA).
Ramanan and Fadhlina were among the PKR leaders who accompanied Lim to the nomination centre. They were joined by PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and PKR Central Leadership Council member Dr Maszlee Malik.
The Election Commission has set November 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election. Early voting will take place on November 10.
