PM Anwar urges Negeri Sembilan people to continue giving PH mandate

SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the people of Negeri Sembilan to give the coalition a mandate in the 16th State Election (PRN) to continue to govern the state. The Prime Minister said the support was important to enable the full mandate to be given to Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to be reappointed as Menteri Besar so that the state's future would be more secure. "Now, I ask for a mandate from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government of Negeri Sembilan... for this mandate, Tok Min (Aminuddin Harun) is appointed as Menteri Besar. "God willing, the future of Negeri Sembilan will be more secure. The future of this state is the future of workers, small traders," he said when launching the Negeri Sembilan PH election machinery here tonight. Also present were PH Deputy Chairman Anthony Loke, PH Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PKR Information Chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and other top leadership. Anwar also stressed that the current ruling government is focusing on efforts to safeguard the welfare of the people and strengthen the country's economy through investment. He said Malaysia's investment performance showed encouraging development compared to several neighbouring countries, with several states also recording rapid growth. "I want to emphasize again, we govern for the welfare of the people. We want to work as best as possible," he said, adding that among the states that have shown a surge in development are Johor and Negeri Sembilan as a result of increased economic activity and investment coming into the country. Meanwhile, he stressed that the government does not adopt a hostile approach despite political differences among leaders. "I don't want to be enemies, the right wing (of the Unity Government) of the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the UMNO President, we are working as usual out of love for the people," he said. Anwar said political stability and cooperation among parties in the Unity Government were important to ensure that the national development agenda could be implemented effectively for the well-being of the people. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said the Federal Government does not interfere in matters involving royal institutions in Negeri Sembilan, but rather all matters must be resolved in accordance with the Constitution and existing laws. He said that although there were various views regarding the monarchy system in the state, the Federal Government still respected the jurisdiction of the state government and the institution of the Yang Dipertuan Besar. "I know that in Negeri Sembilan there are those who disagree with my decision. I do not interfere, I do not interfere in state affairs," he said. Anwar said he and government representatives had held discussions with relevant parties, including the state's law enforcement, but stressed that he did not dispute the Adat Perpatih or the state's system and constitution. "Did I not contact Undang? I did contact Undang... I do not dispute Adat Perpatih, Undang, Luak, I do not dispute. That is the state constitution but for now, everything is not in order and in order, we have a Menteri Besar, we have a Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan," he said. The Prime Minister also reminded all parties not to make the royal institution a source of political controversy that could affect the stability of the country and the Constitutional Monarchy system. "We say we support the monarchy system, but at the same time we are working to overthrow the monarchy. I do not agree. Any changes must follow constitutional rules," said Anwar. -- BERNAMA

UMNO Will Continue To Support Unity Govt Until Next Election – Asyraf Wajdi

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 -- UMNO will continue to support the Unity Government that was formed after the 15th General Election (GE15) until the next general election, in line with the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, Kinfg of Malaysia. UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said this stance was decided during the UMNO Supreme Council (MKT) meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the UMNO President, at Menara Dato’ Onn here tonight. At the same time, he stated that the agreement to form the Unity Government at the Federal level does not bind any state government. According to him, the Johor State Government was formed before the creation of the Federal-level Unity Government and did not involve parties from Pakatan Harapan (PH). Asyraf Wajdi added that the decision by UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) to defend the state mandate is not a form of betrayal against the Federal Government, as claimed by certain parties. "On the contrary, it is a legitimate, mature, and constitutional democratic practice that fully returns the mandate to the people," he said. He also mentioned that UMNO remains open to any form of cooperation with any party for the sake of the country's political stability and the well-being of the people; however, any cooperation must be built upon the principles of sincerity and trust. -- BERNAMA

Johor state election: BN candidate list being reviewed – Ahmad Zahid

KUALA TERENGGANU: The list of candidates for the Johor State Election (PRN) has been submitted by Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and is currently in the evaluation stage. Deputy Prime Minister and BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the list of candidates that had been submitted to him would be finalised after he held discussions with the leaders of BN component parties. "The candidates are in the evaluation stage, but we must also respect the candidates who come (put forward) from other BN component parties," he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said this to reporters after the Closing Ceremony of the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Economic Convention (KEUB 2026) here today. The UMNO president, who also confirmed that Onn Hafiz would remain the "poster boy" in the state election, said BN was committed to winning more than 40 seats in this state election, surpassing the record achieved in 2022. However, he admitted that no victory can be achieved easily except through hard work, wisdom and an organized machinery. Apart from that, the various initiatives implemented by the Johor State Government under the BN administration for the well-being of the people of Johor are believed to gain the support and confidence of voters in this election. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid dismissed negative perceptions about the relationship between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) following the decision to contest solo, by emphasizing that the Johor State Government under BN administration was formed before the existence of the Unity Government at the Federal level. "The government in Johor is a BN government, not a Unity Government. The door has been opened by Johor BN for them to contest on a friendly basis in each of the 56 state assembly seats," he said. Yesterday, Onn Hafiz announced the dissolution of the Johor State Assembly after receiving the consent of the Regent Sultan of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail to pave the way for the state election. Onn Hafiz previously confirmed that Johor BN would field candidates in all 56 seats in this state election.
