KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians need to reject any form of racial provocation and it is not easy influenced by any racist and religious extremist slander that has been deliberately played by irresponsible parties in recent times.
Through a Facebook post, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming said the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring that community unity and harmony are always maintained.
“The MADANI Government will not compromise against any party that tries to disrupt public order through the spread of slander, incitement or racist statements.
“We must never be influenced or respond to provocations by extremist factions who have a hidden agenda. Let the authorities conduct investigations and take action according to the law,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Housing and Local Government Minister’s Ramadan Iftar Ceremony with Media Friends at a restaurant, here tonight.
Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Star Media Group Chief Content Officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng Sek Yee, Sinar Harian Group Editor-in-Chief Zamri Rambli, and Astro AWANI acting Editor-in-Chief Zaiful Mohd Ariffin.
Meanwhile, Nga also emphasised that the role of the media is very important in delivering accurate and responsible information to the people.
“Tonight’s Iftar ceremony is not only a platform to strengthen relations between the ministry and media practitioners, but also a reminder that we all have a shared responsibility to maintain the harmony, unity and peace of the country,” he said.
In addition, Nga called on all Malaysians to unite under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in facing the economic and political challenges following the current crisis in West Asia.
“I stress that the country needs stability and peace to face the challenges caused by the West Asia crisis. This is a time when the spirit of unity needs to be highlighted for the sake of the country’s future,” he said.
