PM Anwar urges Negeri Sembilan people to continue giving PH mandate

SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the people of Negeri Sembilan to give the coalition a mandate in the 16th State Election (PRN) to continue to govern the state. The Prime Minister said the support was important to enable the full mandate to be given to Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to be reappointed as Menteri Besar so that the state's future would be more secure. "Now, I ask for a mandate from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government of Negeri Sembilan... for this mandate, Tok Min (Aminuddin Harun) is appointed as Menteri Besar. "God willing, the future of Negeri Sembilan will be more secure. The future of this state is the future of workers, small traders," he said when launching the Negeri Sembilan PH election machinery here tonight. Also present were PH Deputy Chairman Anthony Loke, PH Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PKR Information Chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and other top leadership. Anwar also stressed that the current ruling government is focusing on efforts to safeguard the welfare of the people and strengthen the country's economy through investment. He said Malaysia's investment performance showed encouraging development compared to several neighbouring countries, with several states also recording rapid growth. "I want to emphasize again, we govern for the welfare of the people. We want to work as best as possible," he said, adding that among the states that have shown a surge in development are Johor and Negeri Sembilan as a result of increased economic activity and investment coming into the country. Meanwhile, he stressed that the government does not adopt a hostile approach despite political differences among leaders. "I don't want to be enemies, the right wing (of the Unity Government) of the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the UMNO President, we are working as usual out of love for the people," he said. Anwar said political stability and cooperation among parties in the Unity Government were important to ensure that the national development agenda could be implemented effectively for the well-being of the people. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said the Federal Government does not interfere in matters involving royal institutions in Negeri Sembilan, but rather all matters must be resolved in accordance with the Constitution and existing laws. He said that although there were various views regarding the monarchy system in the state, the Federal Government still respected the jurisdiction of the state government and the institution of the Yang Dipertuan Besar. "I know that in Negeri Sembilan there are those who disagree with my decision. I do not interfere, I do not interfere in state affairs," he said. Anwar said he and government representatives had held discussions with relevant parties, including the state's law enforcement, but stressed that he did not dispute the Adat Perpatih or the state's system and constitution. "Did I not contact Undang? I did contact Undang... I do not dispute Adat Perpatih, Undang, Luak, I do not dispute. That is the state constitution but for now, everything is not in order and in order, we have a Menteri Besar, we have a Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan," he said. The Prime Minister also reminded all parties not to make the royal institution a source of political controversy that could affect the stability of the country and the Constitutional Monarchy system. "We say we support the monarchy system, but at the same time we are working to overthrow the monarchy. I do not agree. Any changes must follow constitutional rules," said Anwar. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday has underscored the critical role of religious leaders in fostering peace, justice and compassion amid growing global conflicts and divisions. Speaking at the Third International Religious Leaders' Summit, which gathered religious leaders, scholars, academics and policymakers from 31 countries, Anwar said the voice of faith-based leaders is increasingly important in navigating an uncertain and fragmented world. The Prime Minister also conveyed his appreciation to the Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who officiated the summit and delivered the keynote address. Anwar stressed that efforts to achieve peace should not be left solely to political considerations, but must also be guided by universal values of humanity, justice and compassion. “In a world environment that is increasingly filled with conflict, division and uncertainty, the role of religious leaders as voices of conscience, moderation and wisdom has become more crucial than ever,” he said. He highlighted ongoing humanitarian crises, including the tragedy in Gaza and conflicts in other parts of the world, calling for greater moral leadership in addressing global challenges. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to mutual respect, religious freedom and harmonious coexistence, principles enshrined in the Federal Constitution. “As a plural society, Malaysia believes that true strength lies not in uniformity, but in the ability to manage differences fairly, wisely and respectfully,” he said. PM Anwar Urges Human-Centred AI Future in Special Lecture at University of Tokyo

TOKYO, June 9 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today called for a human-centred approach to artificial intelligence (AI), stressing that the greatest challenge facing society is not technological advancement itself, but ensuring that innovation remains guided by human values, wisdom and compassion. Delivering a special lecture titled “Humanity in a Human-Machine Civilisation” at the University of Tokyo, Anwar reflected on the implications of rapidly advancing AI technologies and the fundamental question of what becomes of humanity as machines increasingly imitate human thinking, communication and judgement. The Prime Minister said Malaysia has set an ambitious goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030, but emphasised that the pursuit of technological progress must be accompanied by a broader discussion on the kind of digital civilisation the world seeks to build. “Asia must not enter the age of artificial intelligence merely as a market, a manufacturing base or a source of data. We must help shape a digital civilisation worthy of humankind,” he said. Anwar highlighted what he described as a profound irony of the modern era, noting that while humanity celebrates unprecedented technological breakthroughs, conflicts and humanitarian crises continue to afflict the world. He pointed to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, violence in Iran, attacks in Lebanon and the global energy crisis linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz as examples of challenges that persist despite technological advancement. He warned that some of these tragedies have been enabled or amplified by technologies often associated with progress, underscoring the need for ethical oversight and responsible innovation. The Prime Minister stressed that the true measure of progress should not be the sophistication of machines, but whether technological developments uphold human dignity and advance justice. Drawing inspiration from the philosophy of Watsuji Tetsurō and his concept of ningen, Anwar said human beings are fundamentally shaped by relationships, communities, history and shared experiences. While acknowledging AI’s growing capabilities, he argued that technology cannot replicate essential human experiences such as love, grief, loss and remorse. “The future of artificial intelligence is not merely a question of innovation, but one of values, power and sovereignty,” he said. Anwar concluded by urging governments, academics and industry leaders to ensure that technological progress remains firmly in service of humanity, guided by ethical principles and a commitment to the common good. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM

Nation’s Progress Must Be Measured by Knowledge, Integrity and Values – PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that the true progress of a nation should not be measured solely by physical prosperity and infrastructure development, but also by the strength of knowledge, integrity, reason and values within society. Speaking at the Monthly Assembly of the Ministry of Communications, Anwar said a developed nation must be built upon a knowledgeable and morally grounded society that upholds justice, truth and mutual respect. He warned that societies with shallow knowledge and a lack of understanding of truth and justice are vulnerable to falling into ignorance, prejudice and misinformation. “A society that does not seek knowledge, uphold principles of justice or practise courtesy in thought and action can easily be trapped in a cycle of ignorance and illiteracy,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that in an era of rapid information sharing and evolving communication platforms, public discourse must be guided by wisdom, knowledge and good manners. He noted that while freedom of speech is an essential democratic principle, it must be exercised responsibly and accompanied by moral accountability. “Freedom of expression should be guided by ethical responsibility, while differences in opinion should never be used as an excuse to divide society or undermine the shared values of humanity that bind us together,” he said. Anwar also reminded civil servants and stakeholders that the nation’s development agenda extends beyond economic growth and technological advancement. According to him, Malaysia’s future success depends on its ability to cultivate a society that is knowledgeable, cultured, well-mannered and united in pursuing truth, justice and compassion. He called on all parties to work collectively towards strengthening social cohesion and fostering a culture that values intellectual growth, integrity and mutual respect as the country moves forward. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ANWAR IBRAHIM
