Kuala Lumpur — The People’s Justice Party (PKR) will not protect any leader or member found to be abusing power, its Information Chief Fahmi Fadzil said.
YB Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, stressed that party president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has issued a firm warning that no individual—including ministers—would be shielded if implicated in misconduct.
He reminded party members not to misuse their positions for personal gain or engage in actions that could tarnish the party’s image. Fahmi also recalled PKR’s past struggle against abuse of power, urging members not to repeat such practices within their own ranks.
Speaking at the opening of the PKR Branch Annual General Meeting for the Federal Territories 2026 in Bandar Tun Razak, Fahmi cautioned leaders against becoming complacent. He noted that unexplained changes in lifestyle could invite negative public perception and erode trust.
At the same time, he encouraged party members to maintain internal accountability by offering constructive criticism through proper channels. He emphasized that while diversity of views is welcomed within PKR, unity remains crucial, especially as the country navigates global economic pressures and an ongoing energy crisis.
In a separate development, Fahmi confirmed that the defamation suit he filed against three individuals will proceed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court starting next Monday. He said he is expected to testify as the first witness, adding that the legal action was initiated to clear his name.
The suit, filed on Sept 5, 2023, names Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, independent preacher Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani, and Mohd Fauzan Madzlan, who operates the N13 Kuang Facebook account. The case relates to allegations that Fahmi misused a mosque in Rawang, Selangor, for political campaigning purposes.
