PUTRAJAYA, July 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a comprehensive approach to national security, stressing that Malaysia must strengthen its technological capabilities, digital resilience and human capital to address increasingly complex threats in the modern era.
Speaking after officiating the National Security Month Programme 2026 and the National Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026, Anwar said conventional security approaches were no longer sufficient to counter emerging challenges driven by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies.
He said Malaysia must enhance its preparedness by investing in advanced technology and security systems while also developing a new generation of digitally literate, highly skilled and security-conscious citizens capable of navigating future challenges.
According to the Prime Minister, building national resilience requires more than technological upgrades, as human capital development remains a critical component of the country’s long-term security strategy.
Anwar also stressed that national security should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of enforcement and security agencies. Instead, he said it is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen, family and community.
He noted that cultivating a culture of vigilance, responsibility and awareness at all levels of society would strengthen the nation’s overall defence and resilience against both conventional and non-traditional threats.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia must be prepared to face a rapidly evolving threat landscape by leveraging knowledge, technology, innovation and collective action to safeguard the country’s security and sovereignty.
He expressed confidence that through greater collaboration between government agencies, industry players, educational institutions and the public, Malaysia would be better positioned to confront future security challenges and ensure a secure and prosperous future for coming generations.
