Anwar Urges KPDN to Ensure Economic Growth Eases Cost-of-Living Pressures

MELAKA, Oct 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to ensure that Malaysia’s positive economic performance translates into tangible improvements in the people’s lives, particularly in addressing the rising cost of living.

He said that while the country’s improving economic performance was encouraging, the government must remain focused on the financial burdens and everyday needs of the people.

“We are proud when the economy surges, but we must also consider whether that economic growth can solve the people’s problems,” he said when officiating at the Sentuhan Kasih MADANI programme and launching the National Cost of Living Action Plan 2030 (NCLAP30) at Stadium Hang Jebat in Krubong today.

Anwar said NCLAP30 would serve as a comprehensive and integrated framework to address cost-of-living challenges and improve public well-being.

He also commended KPDN for its efforts to help consumers through the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM), which is held regularly in urban and rural areas to provide goods at lower prices.

He said the programme had reached communities across villages, districts, cities, rural areas and remote locations.

NCLAP30 is a five-year national action framework built around two key missions: increasing household income to meet cost-of-living needs and stabilising the prices of essential goods and services.

The plan covers eight strategic areas: income, food, health, education, transport, housing, utilities and general matters.

A total of 35 strategies and 429 initiatives will be implemented through existing and enhanced programmes, as well as new measures involving various ministries, government agencies and strategic partners.
