KUALA LUMPUR, September 23 2026, The defamation suit filed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against Pendang Member of Parliament Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim was amicably settled at the High Court here today.
The court was informed that both parties had reached a settlement, with Anwar withdrawing the suit with no order as to costs and without liberty to file afresh.
Judge Roslan Mat Nor subsequently struck out the suit and vacated the trial dates scheduled for Oct 26 to 29, 2026.
Under the agreed settlement, Awang Solahuddin unequivocally withdrew all statements he made on or around Feb 21, 2023, which formed the basis of the legal action. He also agreed not to repeat or republish the statements, or any statements conveying a similar meaning, in the future.
Anwar filed the suit on March 3, 2023, over remarks allegedly made by Awang Solahuddin at the Parliament lobby on Feb 21 that year.
The remarks allegedly implied that Anwar had abused his powers as Prime Minister and Finance Minister by interfering with or directing law enforcement and prosecution agencies for political purposes.
Both parties urged all sides to respect the settlement and refrain from using the case to undermine national harmony, unity and stability.
