SHAH ALAM, September 23 2026, Police have arrested 12 people believed to be drug mules, including a local runner, in separate raids at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Sepang, disrupting a cannabis distribution syndicate involving drugs worth RM33.4 million.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the raids, conducted between Aug 28 and Sept 21, led to the arrest of one Malaysian man, four foreign men and seven foreign women.
Police also seized 671 packets containing 418 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis buds.
He said the suspects were allegedly lured with job opportunities and tourism packages in Malaysia before being instructed to transport luggage containing the drugs.
The local suspect is believed to have acted as a runner, supplying the drugs to the foreign couriers, and is suspected of being involved in the activity since early this year.
Police also seized assets worth RM37,700, comprising two vehicles and foreign currencies.
Shazeli said six suspects have been charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the remaining six are still under investigation.
None of the suspects had previous records in Malaysia, while the foreign nationals entered the country using social visit passes.
