PUTRAJAYA, July 7 – The Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) has clarified that the BMW vehicle recently used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not his new official vehicle but an existing asset belonging to the International Ceremonies and Affairs Division (BIUPA).
In a statement today, JPM said the vehicle is part of BIUPA’s existing fleet and is provided to meet the country’s official requirements, particularly for the transportation of Heads of State and Heads of Government at the presidential or prime ministerial level during official visits to Malaysia.
According to the department, the vehicle complies with international protocol and security requirements, including advanced safety specifications designed to withstand high-calibre ballistic threats, explosions and modern security risks such as drone attacks.
JPM explained that the BMW was assigned for the Prime Minister’s temporary use following advice and a security assessment by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The department added that the Prime Minister’s official vehicle, which was granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, is currently undergoing maintenance.
The clarification was issued in response to allegations circulating regarding the Prime Minister’s use of the BMW vehicle.
