KUALA LUMPUR: Six students at the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Johor who are suspected of being involved in a bullying case face expulsion from the institution if found guilty of the act.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that following the latest case report, he had instructed the MARA Secondary Education Division (BPM) and the MRSM administration to immediately hold a College Disciplinary Committee (JDM) meeting.
“A JDM meeting must be held immediately within 24 hours to conduct an investigation and take the strictest action against students found to be involved. If proven guilty, they must be expelled from MRSM.”
“I am very sad, regretful and disappointed when I was informed about a case of bullying that allegedly occurred at an MRSM in Johor,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.
He said the case was only known after the victim’s parents posted on social media that their child had requested to leave MRSM because they could no longer bear the suffering caused by the bullying.
He said the incident, which is suspected to involve six Form 5 students, is currently under investigation by the authorities after the victims’ parents filed a report with the authorities and all six students involved have been remanded for two days to assist in the investigation.
“Regardless of the reason given, acts of bullying or taking personal action under the pretext of wanting to ‘discipline’ junior students are completely unacceptable and will not be compromised.”
“I would like to reiterate the stance that I have repeatedly stressed to all MRSM, You Touch, You Go members . Anyone proven to have committed bullying acts, there is no longer a place for them at MRSM. There is no compromise and there is no place for bullies at MRSM,” he said.
Asyraf Wajdi also called on all MRSM students not to be afraid to report any bullying incidents to teachers, warden or administration immediately and not to choose to leave school simply because they are victims.
“I also want to warn that if there are any parties who try to hide or protect this act of bullying, MARA will not hesitate to take appropriate action,” he said.
Earlier, six 17-year-old male students were arrested by police early this morning to assist in the investigation into a bullying case involving a 14-year-old male student at a school in Muar last May.
