Contractor loses RM144,781 in cryptocurrency investment scam

KUALA TERENGGANU, September 19 2026, A construction contractor lost RM144,781.21 after falling victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam allegedly promoted by a woman he met on TikTok.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 59-year-old man was introduced to the investment scheme in early August by a woman claiming to be from South Korea.

He said the victim was persuaded to invest in the scheme, which promised high returns within a short period.

The victim subsequently made 14 transactions involving 11 different bank accounts between Aug 4 and Sept 9, using his business savings.

“However, he became suspicious after failing to recover his investment or receive the promised returns. He was also unable to contact the woman, known as Eun Pyun,” he said in a statement today.

Azli said the victim lodged a police report at 6.19 pm yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
