PayNet and Alipay+ partnership expands DuitNow QR payments to five overseas destinations

Malaysians Can Use DuitNow QR in Five Overseas Destinations Through Alipay+

KUALA LUMPUR, October 29, 2026 — Malaysians can now use supported local mobile banking apps to make DuitNow QR payments at participating merchants in five overseas destinations.

Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) introduced the service through its partnership with Alipay+, a global payment platform operated by Ant International.

The service covers China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos. Users can pay at participating merchants displaying the Alipay+ logo without downloading another app or opening a separate Alipay+ account.

Which Malaysian Banks Support the Service?

The service initially supports customers of three banks:

  • Maybank
  • CIMB
  • Hong Leong Bank

Bank Islam is expected to join the service soon.

More banks and e-wallet providers that participate in PayNet’s network may also adopt the service in the future.

How to Make DuitNow QR Payments Overseas

The payment process uses the banking app customers already have.

First, open the DuitNow QR payment function in your supported banking app. Next, scan the QR code displaying the Alipay+ logo at a participating merchant.

Then, review the transaction details and confirm the payment in the same app.

This means travellers do not need to download an additional payment app or create a separate Alipay+ account.

However, the service is available only at participating merchants in the supported destinations.

PayNet Expands Cross-Border Payments

PayNet chief executive officer Praveen Rajan said the launch forms part of the company’s wider effort to extend Malaysia’s payment network beyond its borders.

The initiative aims to make overseas payments easier while supporting secure and efficient cross-border transactions.

It also builds on PayNet’s existing partnership with Ant International through Alipay+.

Since November 2023, travellers using supported Alipay+ partner wallets have been able to pay at participating DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. This has helped local businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, reach international visitors.

The new service extends the arrangement in the opposite direction. Malaysian banking app users can now make payments at participating Alipay+ merchants overseas.

Cross-Border Transactions Rise

PayNet recorded nearly 30 million cross-border payment transactions in 2025, an increase of approximately 150% compared with 2024.

Transactions involving China accounted for a significant share of that growth.

Meanwhile, the Alipay+ ecosystem connects more than two billion user accounts through over 50 international payment partners. It also covers more than 150 million merchants across over 210 markets.

PayNet plans to expand the overseas DuitNow QR service to more destinations over time. The move could give Malaysian travellers more ways to pay abroad using their existing banking apps.
