KUALA LUMPUR, October 2 2026 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking to enhance its strategic collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to expand international news coverage and boost its officers’ digital media capabilities.
Its Communications and Public Diplomacy Division Undersecretary Datuk Nur Izzah Wong Mee Chun said her courtesy visit to Wisma Bernama today aimed to strengthen existing ties between the two organisations.
She said Bernama had played an important role in disseminating news and information related to the ministry, including international affairs and the activities of Malaysian missions abroad.
“My visit here today is to enhance the ongoing collaborations that we have with Bernama in terms of news coverage on international issues, international relations, and also some of the activities that our embassies do abroad.
“This time, I came to ask if we can have some professional training with Bernama, leveraging its expertise to train our officers on digital media coverage. We have our own media platform and want to make it more professional and engaging for the audience,” she said.
Nur Izzah said the ministry also planned to leverage Bernama’s reach to share valuable research and raise public awareness on pressing safety issues.
“Some of the projects that we are doing at the ministry level or research by our experts, especially from the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), are worth sharing with the public to educate them on issues affecting their day-to-day lives, such as threats related to e-gaming,” she said.
She stressed that the ministry could work with Bernama to effectively promote its research articles and in-house podcasts to a wider audience.
During the visit, Nur Izzah and her delegation were received by Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, deputy editor-in-chief of News Services Mohd Shukri Ishak, and deputy editor-in-chief of Economic News Services Harlina Samson.
The delegation was also briefed on Bernama’s operations before visiting several key departments at the news agency’s headquarters, including the Editorial Department, BERNAMA TV and Digital Media Division.
Also present from the ministry were Senior Public Relations Officer Tina Rohayu Hamdan, Principal Assistant Secretary Al Izaini Izhar and Public Relations Officer Wan Nur Afiqah Wan Zaihan.
