Its director Zulkarnain Yasin said enforcement action was taken in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations. He said among the offences recorded were not having a Motor Vehicle Licence, with 402 notices issued, not possessing a Competent Driving Licence (410 notices), technical offences (393), no insurance coverage (342 notices), and major offences (145). “The major offences included not wearing a seat belt, which topped the list with 51 notices, followed by not wearing a helmet (36 notices) and carrying excessive load (18 notices),” he said in a statement today. He added that during the same period, a total of 17,236 vehicles were inspected, with eight motorcycles, 15 cars and eight staff buses impounded as they were deemed unsafe or unfit to be on the road. Meanwhile, Zulkarnain said statistical analysis found that public awareness of the Perception of Being Caught (POBC), or the probability of being caught committing an offence, had increased by 93 per cent over the first two days of the operation. According to him, the operation was carried out to strengthen law enforcement, with continuous monitoring at accident blackspots across all districts to ensure the smooth and safe movement of road users.
