ISKANDAR PUTERI, JUNE 15 — Integrity and trust must continue to be the mainstays in every level of the security forces to ensure that the people’s trust in enforcement institutions continues to be maintained, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police, .
He said that the strength of an organisation does not only depend on physical facilities, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchaybuildings or sophisticated assets, but rather, it is determined by the level of integrity and honesty of its members.
He said that an organization can have complete experience, skills and assets, but without integrity, all of it is worthless.
“If integrity collapses, no matter how great the facilities are, the people’s trust will be lost. If we lose property, we lose nothing. If we lose health, we lose something, but if we lose character, we lose everything.
“That is the importance of integrity and moral values in life,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters (IPD) here today.
Also present was Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.
Ayob Khan said that the trust carried by each team member must always be safeguarded and cannot be compromised.
He said there was no tolerance for abuse of power, corruption or any form of disciplinary violation that could affect the team’s image and the public’s trust.
“Never use rank as protection from legal action. Anyone who betrays the people’s trust must face appropriate action regardless of position or rank,” he said.
In the same development, he said that today’s security challenges are increasingly complex as authorities are no longer only facing conventional crime, but rather new threats such as cybercrime, online fraud syndicates, cross-border smuggling and transnational crime.
In this regard, he said, the police force needs to continue to strengthen its operational and investigative capabilities through a more proactive, rapid and data-based approach to ensure public safety continues to be maintained.
