JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 90 police reports were received throughout the state during the campaign period for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN), which ended at midnight last night.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police report received did not involve any candidate or top party leader.
He said that from the total reports received, 25 investigation papers had been opened to enable further action to be taken in accordance with legal provisions.
“Most of the reported cases involve acts of treachery, including acts of damaging, removing and burning the flags of the political parties that are contesting.
“So far (all investigation papers) are still in the process of finding those involved,” he told reporters after visiting the Taman Molek National Secondary School (SMK) Voting Centre, here today.
Also present to monitor the voting process were the Director of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (JKDNKA) Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.
Regarding the conduct of today’s voting process, he said that so far the democratic process, which involved 2.7 million registered voters, had gone well and smoothly, without any untoward incidents.
To ensure that public safety and order are always maintained, he said 14,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies throughout Johor.
“This amount includes manpower assistance from several contingents throughout the country, totaling 5,600 officers and personnel,” he said.
He also advised voters who want to make any complaints or dissatisfaction to come forward and report to the police to enable early action to be taken by the Election Commission (EC) or related agencies.
The voting process, involving 2.7 million registered voters, is scheduled to last until 6pm this evening, after the 14-day campaign period ended at midnight last night.
