Malaysia, Jordan Explore High-Tech Partnership to Develop More Engineers

PUTRAJAYA, October 12, 2026  Malaysia and Jordan are looking to strengthen cooperation in high-tech industries, particularly semiconductors and advanced technical education, to produce more engineers and skilled workers for future industry needs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter was discussed during his meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, who was on a two-day state visit to Malaysia at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Anwar said both countries also explored cooperation in higher education, emerging technologies and the development of advanced technical training centres.

The discussions covered expanding bilateral trade and investment, including a potential free trade agreement, tariff restructuring, stronger supply chains, energy, transport, the halal industry and tourism.

Both leaders also exchanged views on developments in West Asia, particularly Palestine and Syria, and their implications for regional security.

Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to defending Palestinian rights and strengthening humanitarian assistance, especially for the people of Gaza.

Malaysia and Jordan established diplomatic relations in 1965. Bilateral trade reached RM993.4 million in 2025, an increase of 15.2 per cent from the previous year. Trade from January to August 2026 rose eight per cent year-on-year to RM740.7 million.
