TAIPING, June 15 — A Myanmar national in his 30s drowned while swimming with friends at a waterfall in Taiping on Monday morning.
The Taiping Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call regarding the incident at Waterfall Up String Greeneries Memorial Park, Jalan Tupai, Taman Saga, at approximately 11.01am.
Upon arrival, firefighters gathered information from the caller to confirm the victim’s location. The victim was believed to have drowned while bathing at the waterfall with four friends.
A search operation was immediately launched, with rescue personnel conducting a search of the waterfall’s base. The victim was later located after surfacing in the water.
Firefighters retrieved the victim and brought him to the riverbank using a stretcher. Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) subsequently confirmed that the man had died at the scene.
The operation was led by Senior Fire Officer PBK II Mazli A. Mutalib and involved eight personnel, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
The victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
JBPM Perak has reminded the public to prioritise safety when engaging in recreational activities at rivers, waterfalls and other high-risk locations to prevent similar tragedies.
