Home Ministry Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Drug-Laced Vapes, 585 Arrested Since 2023

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is stepping up efforts to combat the distribution and abuse of vapes containing prohibited substances through integrated enforcement operations involving multiple government agencies. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government remains committed to dismantling syndicates involved in the distribution of illicit vape products, particularly those targeting young people. "The government will not compromise with any syndicate distributing vapes mixed with prohibited substances. KDN will continue to strengthen integrated enforcement to safeguard public safety and protect the future of the younger generation," he said. According to the ministry, enforcement actions carried out between 2023 and June 2026 resulted in the seizure of 718.43 kilograms of vape products or electronic cigarettes suspected of containing prohibited substances. During the same period, authorities arrested 585 individuals and recorded 400 cases involving the distribution of vapes laced with illicit substances, including synthetic drugs, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), mushroom extracts, and other psychoactive substances. The integrated operations involved several enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Health (MOH), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), local authorities, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The Home Ministry said it will continue to intensify special enforcement operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and cyber surveillance, enhance forensic analysis capabilities, and expand public advocacy and education programmes to comprehensively address the growing threat posed by vapes containing prohibited substances. The ministry reiterated that coordinated enforcement and preventive measures remain a key priority in protecting public health and ensuring the safety and well-being of Malaysians, especially the nation's youth. -- MINUTESMY

Sivasangari becomes first Malaysian finalist at PSA Tour Finals since 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 20 -- National squash player, S. Sivasangari, continued her excellent performance at the 2025-2026 PSA Squash Tour Finals in Paris, after booking a place in the final early this morning, thus becoming the first Malaysian female player to advance to the final stage of the tournament since 2012. The fourth seed defeated top seed and Egyptian star Amina Orfi, 3-1, in a thrilling semi-final with an 8-11, 11-10, 11-8, 11-10 victory in 74 minutes. Sivasangari's success in reaching the final also ends a 14-year wait for Malaysian women's squash at the prestigious season-ending tournament, with no national representative reaching the final since 2012. Awaiting her in the championship decider is second seeded Egyptian Hania El Hammamy who advanced after winning another semi-final, to set up the much-anticipated final clash in the French capital. The head-to-head record is in El Hammamy's favour, as Sivasangari have only recorded two wins from their previous 10 meetings. Myanmar Man Drowns While Swimming at Taiping Waterfall

TAIPING, June 15 -- A Myanmar national in his 30s drowned while swimming with friends at a waterfall in Taiping on Monday morning. The Taiping Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call regarding the incident at Waterfall Up String Greeneries Memorial Park, Jalan Tupai, Taman Saga, at approximately 11.01am. Upon arrival, firefighters gathered information from the caller to confirm the victim's location. The victim was believed to have drowned while bathing at the waterfall with four friends. A search operation was immediately launched, with rescue personnel conducting a search of the waterfall's base. The victim was later located after surfacing in the water. Firefighters retrieved the victim and brought him to the riverbank using a stretcher. Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) subsequently confirmed that the man had died at the scene. The operation was led by Senior Fire Officer PBK II Mazli A. Mutalib and involved eight personnel, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. The victim's body was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
